The Center for Rural Pennsylvania to Host Listening Session on Stream Cleaning

HARRISBURG – The Center for Rural Pennsylvania will host a listening session on 'Stream Cleaning' on Thursday, January 19th at 8:30AM to noon, according to State Senator Gene Yaw (R-23), the Center’s Board Chairman. The session will be held at the Sullivan County Conservation District / Agricultural Center, 9219 Route 487, Dushore, PA  18614.

Center staff will be joined by state and local elected officials from Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan and Susquehanna counties, members of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, local businesses and residents, many of whom have been affected and will offer testimony regarding issues surrounding stream cleaning in the wake of recent flooding across Pennsylvania.

"The listening session will allow us to hear from local officials and residents impacted by the flooding so that we can work to improve and enhance current state regulations for stream maintenance," Yaw said.  "I look forward to reviewing the testimony."

"The Center for Rural Pennsylvania continually works to gather input from rural residents on how state government can partner with them to address local challenges and opportunities," said Barry Denk, Executive Director for the Center.  "The listening session in Sullivan County, called by our Chairman Senator Yaw, clearly shows this commitment to serving Pennsylvania's rural citizens and their communities."

The listening session is open to the public. Because seating is limited, those attending are asked to contact Senator Yaw's Office at (717) 787-3280 or (800) 443-5772.  Because of time constraints, there will not be an opportunity for a public comment period. However, written testimony will be accepted by The Center. The public can also submit comments at senatorgeneyaw.com.
